Avian Flu outbreak in North Shropshire

Due to the increase in cases across England and the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Shropshire, APHA has introduced mandatory housing measures in Shropshire from Monday the 27th of January.

Published: 27 January 2025

Shropshire Council have issued the following statement:

There has been an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Shropshire, and the animal and plant health agency (APHA) has enforced a mandatory housing order for all birds in the county of Shropshire to control the spread and risk to animal and human health.

This means that all bird keepers in Shropshire must keep their birds housed until the housing measures are lifted. This applies to poultry and other birds kept in captivity including chickens, ducks, geese, and other exotic captive birds.

Shropshire Council is doing their best to spread the word using social media but as you can appreciate, Shropshire is a very rural county and we need to make other efforts to reach as much of the population as possible!
